Basmati rice- 1 cup
Toor dal - 1 cup
water - 10cups
Beans - 15
carrots - 2 medium
peas - 1/2cup
potato - 1 big
tomato- 2 medium
onion - 1
tamarind - size of an egg
Store Bought Bisi bele bath Masala - 2tbsp
Turmeric - 1/4tsp
mustard seeds
Jeera seeds
Urad or Chana dal - 1 tsp
curry leaves - few
Red chillis - 2
Hing - pinch
Salt
Oil
Cut all the veggies into 1" pieces. Cook toor dal with 3cups of water in a pressure cooker. In a dutch oven type pan, add remaining water bring to boil. Add dal and cook for 10min. Add veggies and rice. When rice is 75% done add cooked dal. Cook for few minutes. Add Store bought Bisi bele bath masala, tamarind paste. Cook until done. Heat some oil in a pan. Add urad or chana dal, curry leaves, eera, mustard seeds, hing, turmeric, Red chillis, chopped onion. Fry for few minutes. Add this to the dal/rice mixture. Mix well. Garnish with chopped corriander leaves.
If you want to make the masala from the scratch, here is what you will need:
chana dal - 1tbsp
Urad dal - 1tbsp
Methi seeds - 1/2tsp
Hing - pinch
Coriander seeds - 1tbsp
Dry coconut powder - 1/2 cup
Dry red chillies - 4
Cloves - 3
Cardamom pod - 2
Cinnamon stick-1 inch
Heat a pan and dry roast all the ingredients except coconut. Roast dry coconut separately. Grind and make a paste with all the ingredients along with dry coconut.
